Lake Ohau – Day 30.

Back to civilisation (of sorts),
It was a pretty rough night as predicted with very strong wind gusts, rain and even lightning. At one point, I cracked open a packet of biscuits because the wind was keeping me awake and so I might as well stay up. I thought about making some tea as well actually, but that might have been over the top. The bottom line, I was on the correct side of the river by the time the rain set in last night, and ready to continue on to Lake Ohau today.
It started with views of a different kind, some more tussock and scree this morning, but just check out all that open space.
The rain was “spitting” here and there, but I pushed on to hopefully make it to Lake Ohau Lodge before the next weather front sets in. Soon I was over the saddle and rewarded with my first glimpse of the lake, absolutely stunning to say the least.
It was nice to see that the rain from the previous night certainly livened up some of the streams and waterfalls here as well.
Further down the track, I hit another small section of forest before getting on the Alps to Ocean cycle track towards the lodge. Looks like this forest section is well maintained with lots of traps and predator control measures here. The results shows in the variety of birdlife that are present when you slow down and sit down. Before I knew it, I was on the “home stretch” with the lake in full view.

I have a feeling I am going to like it here…
