A little “bit” of my grandparents.

Unpacking “that” box, you know the one,

Well, I want to say “all of us”, but I am confident my friend Clint is not part of this group, so… Some of us will know about that box we have in the garage, the one [or more] that we have not unpacked since a previous house move, or maybe the one before that.  I have one of these boxes, and I am pretty confident it is coming on (unpacked) for the last 3 house relocations.

Since I don’t have the “I don’t have time” excuse at the moment, I started digging into it.  Most of it is old things from my childhood, some inheritance and junk.  I managed to get rid of a few things, and decided to unpack, fix and use or display some of the other items.

This barometer use to be in my grandparents home, just as you walked in by the front door if I remember correctly.   As I child I didn’t knew what it did, or displayed, and neither was I tall enough to read it.  I always just use to think that it was magic when my grandmother said there was rain coming.  Bottom line, I got it out of the box, and the local watchmaker-fixer repaired it for me.  It is now in my home, just as you walk in by the front door… continuing the tradition.

  1. Pretty Special.. Me thinks..

Ek het ook so sulke special pieces van my Ouma..
Hin coffee grinder ornament en haar vintage ring wat ek pretty much elke 2de dag dra 😊

  2. Yes, it looks very nice just inside the front door, but there wasn’t much consideration for those of us who might still be vertically challenged. I couldn’t quite read the dial (on my tip-toes) when you proudly drew my attention to it.

    • Shame Clint… LOL, there was a nail already in the drywall, and it was close enough to my height. Next time 😉
