Small trek to Ceres – Home away from home.

Finally home, my parent’s home, in the town I grew up in,

I am saying goodbye to Cape Town today, and would like to thank my friends for putting up with me for the last couple of days.  It was great seeing everyone and catching up, talking about the good old days as well as the current struggles in each of their lives.  I feel a sense of belonging here in Cape Town and it will forever remain a city that was my home for a little over 18 years.  Thank you to Urvi for her generosity, and the birthday cake (thanks from the Haaikie too), Mr. T and his wife (en die bank in die voorhuis) as well as Juan (for a trip around town).  I am only saying goodbye for now and will be back in a little while, to get to the rest of my friends in town.

My sister collected me in Cape Town today and took me home to Ceres, since she was heading home for a couple of days too.  It was good catching up with her too.  On my South Africa to-do list are things I need to clear up with her as well, so the drive was a good thing.  Living in the present moment, treating the past as wisdom, memories without emotion...  I also realised that I have not sat in the driver’s seat of a car for the past 6 weeks… I hope I still remember how to drive?

We made it to Ceres just before 5pm and were welcomed by a lit braai (barbeque) outside.  It felt nice to be home for a change and I welcomed both my parents with a hug.  I still love coming home, and it is nice being home for a change, surrounded by family (plus my parents 3-legged [super] cat) and catching up around the dinner table until almost midnight.  I will need to work on getting my balance back, but it should be easier here, in some form of my “home”.
