Continued on the heater box and then the “electrics”,
I spent most of my day working on getting the heater box together, closed and sealed. Dad serviced the heater fan motor on Friday last week, so it was ready to go in with the radiator that I cleaned. I was “crafty” with cutting, shaping and gluing all the sponges back in place and felt good about closing the whole thing up. Before fitting it back in place under the dash, I made good use of the time and space to get to the other wiring surrounding the radio, instruments and dash/warning lights. I discovered and fixed a damaged wire running to one of the speakers and fixed a dash light or two. Also spent a lot of time taping things together, keeping wires out of harms way and protected. This car was put together before the invention of plastic cable ties, so I will fit a couple.
Dad continued to work “under the hood” inspecting and updating a modification on the headlights that he did years (and years) ago. Upgrading the headlights of the car from the original old sealed beams to something a little more modern. He changed some relays and fitted new terminals and wiring to keep thing working well and be protected in case something goes wrong. He made good progress where as I on the other hand melted a switch to pieces with the soldering iron. Ugh, LOL. I also took the fuse box off the inside “firewall” to clean and inspect. A little corrosion set in over the years between the fuses and the fuse holders. Everything on this car is old imperial (inch) sizes and surprise surprise, so are the fuses. Time tonight to “hunt” for imperial size glass fuses, three different sizes to be more specific, thanks Ford.
In other good news: it looks like the brake fluid leak is gone again. Hopefully it remains gone, otherwise I am going to have to ask a friend to bring more replacement parts from New Zealand. I also spoke to the shipping company and updated the consultant on our progress on the car. A little odds and ends day today but making steady progress.
