Feeling very privileged today.

And I get a sense of why as well,

Not many people want, or get the opportunity in their 40-tees to just resign from work and take a year off to spend it with themselves and whoever they choose.  Forget about responsibilities (or have no important ones) and just live… in love, gratitude and in the present moment.  I caught myself this morning a couple of times with this distinct emotion and traced it back to feeling extremely privileged, being here, spending time with my dad, working on something meaningful to both him and myself.  What we are doing is huge and my body and mind are certainly realising this, so much so that I am sharing my feelings with dad.

Today I spent a lot of time in, on and under the boot or boot lid.  Measuring templates for sponges around the fuel tank that I need to make as well as vacuuming, cleaning and fitting the boot “stuff”.  I collected the spare wheel earlier today, cleaned and fitted it before putting the carpet back and silencing the squeaks when opening the lid.  I also improved the “make shift” bonnet release mechanism, replacing the “number 8 wire” that dad fitted years ago, with a bicycle cable modification.  The original bonnet release cable of the car is notorious for snapping in two when you need it most, so dad installed a wire to release the bonnet from underneath the front fender.  My job is a clear upgrade in functionality and looks and I am proud of the final result, even if I have to say so myself.

In other news: Dad discovered a leak on the heater hoses of the cooling system… ugh.  Then we discovered a leak on the brake master cylinder… ugh.  It is over now (my relationship with this master cylinder), I ordered a new one from Australia and if it arrives in time we will fit it.  Then we discovered a power steering pipe that is starting to “sweat” and a rubber boot in the hydraulic part of the steering that is broken too.  This car just keeps on giving…  We fixed the reverse light switch too and lubricated the gear changing mechanisms.  Dad is still trying to find new headlamps for the car since the old ones looks a little fussy, we think the reflectors are dull.  We cleaned a little under the car as well and I polished the boot lid, inside and out.  Slowly but certainly we are ticking off more items from the list.  It is feeling like it is coming together and I am privileged to be a part of it all, making new memories.
