Can it be? Taking the car for a drive.

Certainly a memorable day and a highlight in our efforts to fix the car,

This morning we completed a couple of small tasks.  I fitted the glovebox into the dashboard of the car and mounted the center console after a clean and a polish.  Dad and I fiddled with the carburettor again and adjusted the ignition system timing, so that “the 8 horses are feeling the whip at the right moment”.  I could hear the change in the engine as we continued to fine tune the fuel and ignition system.  I fitted the old headlights back, because we are still trying to find new ones… and dad fitted the air cleaner and the “shaker” hood that is protruding through the bonnet.  Ready!  or should I say Ready?

We started the car and warmed her up, checking that the thermostat is now opening at the correct temperature, and the gauge is reading the correct temperature when it happens.  Great.  Something is funky with the RPM meter, not going all the way to zero when you turn the car off, but I will dig into that later.  Dad did another lubrication round on the gear change mechanism and we were ready...

We reversed her out and took her for a test drive.  Wow, never thought this would happen.  How did we get here?  Lots and lots of emotions on the drive, leaving town and taking her out on the open road… letting the horses run.  She is a beauty and sitting in the passenger seat next to my dad passing in between “tweeling dam” was something that I will never forget.  EVER.  Of course when we came back, on the last corner, turning into the garage, the Ford had a little breakdown too… maybe she was emotional too, but her rear, limited slip differential “locked” up and she became very reluctant to turn.  We pulled her in and started to brainstorm, but it will have to wait for tomorrow to look at.  (Stay tuned…)
