Well well well, it looks like the universe were finally on our side,

On the recommendation of one of my old instructors, Clint and I left Cape Town early this morning in the hope to fly at Sir Lowry’s Pass today.  Conditions were still looking very inverted, but I asked the universe to give us a break and make this a nice, flyable day.  We arrived early, then some other pilots and soon after Brian, my old instructor also showed up as well.  Thermic cycles were starting to build and I decided to take the leap and go for a flight, knowing that it will probably be a “foefie” (a term used to describe a flight straight from launch to landing without any real airtime/height gain).  I just wanted to fly… any flight.  I recorded my complete first flight of the day and placed it on YouTube here: Paragliding – Sir Lowry’s Pass – 5 October 2024 (3).

I got a ride up from the bottom and on my arrival at the top, Sir Lowry’s Pass was turned ON.  Most pilots made it to above the road and Clint fared particularly well, “specking out” up higher than all the rest of us.  He also managed to do it on his own while I was still waiting for other pilots to launch.  It wasn’t easy and smooth flying, so forgive me for my footage is a bit rough.  I posted some here: Paragliding – Sir Lowry’s Pass – 5 October 2024 (4).

Clint made some real effort and place a well edited video here: Paragliding – Sir Lowry’s Pass – 5 October 2024.  Some of the footage was his and some of it mine, but he spent the effort creating it all, including the steam train rolling up the hill with the help of a diesel.  I took another flight or two (cannot remember) to the bottom before we called it for the day, returning to our base in Cape Town with smiles on our dials.  Clint got one of my later launches on video and I posted it here: Paragliding – Sir Lowry’s Pass – 5 October 2024 (2).
