A bit of a funky day, weather-wise,
It started this morning with rain showers and while I waiting in the car I had serious thoughts about “packing it in and going home”. I didn’t however and before 10am I grabbed my raincoat and headed off. Today started with a looong beach/next to beach day.
As I turned the corner at the bottom of beach road and I couldn’t help but notice this mural… “Pearl and Florrie’s Musical Mural“. Long story short, two old ladies had a (ever so slightly comical) encounter with a bull. There is a whole webpage, YouTube and most importantly audio clip of the song that tells the story here: Pearl and Florrie. Have a look, it might make your day like it did mine…
“When things look bad, try not to worry… Take the bull by the horns, just like Pearl and Florrie” LOL. So off I went, in the rain that soon improved.
Next I was walking through Queen Elizabeth Park and reading up on a little history from when the US Marines were here during the second world War. Wow, it certainly was a world war with everyone involved.
I loved reading the stories here… “while on a picnic, we were entertained by tracer machine gun fire overhead landing in the sea. Surely the best addition to a family picnic” until they realised they were in a live firing range… Only in NZ.
The weather improved and the beach got longer and wider with Kapiti island more and more prominent in the distance. Just look at all that.
Reached the estuary, turned away from the beach and up next to the banks of the river… after stopping for lunch under some shade. I might have collected a little sunburn while on the sand, will have to see tonight.
All in all a good 22km-ish day. I made it to Waikanae and this is as far as my Wellington accommodation and my Snapper (public transport) card is going to get me. I should take it easy tomorrow before hitting the mountains on the day after.

The Pearl and Florrie mural, video and music – hilarious and yes it did make my day after a very hard workwise day today! LOL
The video is especially funny in the sense that they are sitting on the couch knitting telling this story – very cool and calmy – LOL
this “Paekakariki” – did try and say it 3 times after another – not happening LOL (can’t remember if I mentioned something in the post where you said we should try it) – LOL
As Cliff says – Feel the positive vibes from Cliff and myself – that might help a little to get you through “-)

As Cliff says, feel the positive vibes from us…
The Universe will send her vibes whichever way..
Be gentle on yourself 😉
It is sometimes so surprising what I see in towns by simply walking through them. Driving with the car we tend to miss out on so much. I never would have noticed the Pearl and Florrie story if it wasn’t for walking. O well, thank you for the vibes.
As expected, our brief exchanges on WhatsApp only tell a fraction of the story, as is clear here.
Figuratively and literally, there is always going to be ups and downs, but thankfully it seems like you are battling on through. Good on ya buddy.
The next phase, which you have already experienced without the benefit of a comfortable ‘bolt hole’, will be much more of a test but a test that you have already passed.
Feel the positive vibes from Urvi and me and that might help get you through.
Thank you Cliff, you of all people are familiar with life’s up and inevitable downs.
I should back myself more, I have been through worse but I cannot help to always remai cautiously pessimistic. Ugh… time will tell.
