A short “hop” over two peaks to get to the next hut,

The weather is turing and not for the better.  Ellen was leaving this morning with the plan of completing a big day, walking out to Levin, but I had other plans… just 5km to the next hut.  Even though we walked solo during the day, I still got a sad feeling saying goodbye today.  Thank you Ellen, for your kindness and companionship.  It was nice to see a familiar face at the hut for the past couple of nights.  All the best for your journey.
Leaving Te Matawai hut (Lord of the flies) in misty and rainy conditions, first going down through the jungle before climbing up over the next two peaks.  I got a sense that “my tank” is fairly empty after the big day yesterday, so I took it easy.

The wind was picking up and mixed with rainy conditions the visibility at the last peak got a little risky.  I made sure both my online, support crew watchers were online to inform them of the conditions and my intentions.  Thank you Clint and Emily.  It is nice to know someone is watching… and checking up on me.  To a degree you are both on the trail with me everyday as I made it over the final peak and down to Waiopehu hut safely… feeling wet and cold.  I guess the last two is all part of the TA right?  The hut is empty, so a good sign that the weather is deteriorating and I should not be high up on a mountain.

  1. A “short” hop.. LOL..

Another Lol.. “Lord of the Flies”

Happy to read that you got to your hut safe and sound and that Clint and Emily is keeping a watchful eye on you!

Wet and cold.. Not so nice

    Be safe!

    • Laugh all you want, but in TA Trail terms it was most certainly a “short” hop.

There were (perhaps still are) an extreme amount of flies at that hut. There were even maggots in the water tanks… Ugh, disgusting actually.

I disinfected all my water containers after that hut.
