Looks like that is what the locals call it,
Exploring the town this morning, after sleeping in late and making a couple of calls. To be honest, apart from the wind and it ensuring that my allergies are burning my eyes alive… I really am impressed and like this place. I didn’t have to, but I also ticked of ten TA trail kilometres through Palmerston North today, just to keep my body going and make tomorrow a little easier.
On a side note… (my) Ford from South Africa has cleared NZ customs today and I made the GST payment. Another hurdle out of the way, and one less thing to worry about. I was also very surprised with the amount… much less than expected. Yay!
The trail also went through a cemetery in Palmy… the oldest one. Like I said in my previous post, the city council made a great effort to keep the trail away from busy roads, ducking and diving through side streets, lanes and public land.
The picture above is of one of the public playgrounds… a complete mini road network for kids scooters and cycles… complete with pedestrian crossing, street signs and even a fully timed traffic light. Loving this place.
After the trail bit was done for the day I had some admin to take care of. Needed to find a couple of things to resupply and post a couple of things home, after I did my own “pack shakedown” yesterday evening. I also found some nice artwork from a local artist that I sent home, to remind me of my Wellington, Tararua’s, Palmy stint. All prepared, ready to go back on the road again tomorrow to Fielding.

Interesting quaint little town
One can see from the structures in the cemetery that it is old – I’m sure there quite a bit of history “lying” there
The public playground is just next level ..
Yay on the Ford – that is all round awesome news!
Please post a pic of your artwork – you know how a love art!
I am not sure if “quaint” is the right word to describe Palmy? The place is pretty big.
I am very happy that things are falling into place with the car as well… one less thing to worry about.
The artwork is on (their) way home to Christchurch. Will take a photo when they are in place. Watch this space.
