Cape Town International Airport.

The start of the last leg of my journey, heading home,

I was up early this morning… (almost before the tweety birds) to get ready for a BIG day.  Packed my toiletries and closed my bags for the final time in South Africa.  Headed towards Cape Town International airport after a quick stop in Wellington to collect my sister.  Everything went according to my plans until, while booking my luggage, the universe really threw me a curve ball that I kinda knew was possible, but hoping it would not do.  Dealing with it in a nice manner was one tough challenge, but the second (and larger one) was changing my state of being right there and then.  Ugh.  I was charged a lot of money for extra baggage and I just had to look after myself, focus, get it out of the way, and get on with being me.  Not living in the past.

A certain song I mentioned a while back (in post FP-265 Catching up with paperwork) spring to mind.  The Chieftains – Changing Your Demeanour  Anyhow… I think I managed okay, sitting down for breakfast with my family before boarding a flight to Johannesburg International airport.  Once everyone was on board and the doors were closing (“Bums In Seats” – as a friend on mine would say) I noticed a strange occurrence in the airline industry… an empty seat.
Well well, a friend of mine said that she hopes that I have a whole row of empty seats next to me on my journey to Christchurch and I laughed at the idea… but maybe she is on to something.  I was amazed (and grateful) that the only open seat on the aircraft was next to me.  A great start to my journey, while waving and saying goodbye to Cape Town.

Everything going well, I made it to Johannesburg and checked that my luggage didn’t unexpectedly appear on the baggage carrousel.  I stopped at Woolies for some cheese puffs (lunch/dinner for the Haaikie) before going through security and getting my passport stamped.  It seems South Africa is still happy to see me leave after all.
Boarded my Qantas flight to Sydney and flying premium economy with them for the very first time.  It is an Airbus A380 and for my first time I am walking onto the top level of the aircraft.  Wow, it looks very nice and luxurious and quiet, hoping that I might manage to get some sleep on the way to Sydney.  Again, engines starting and next to me… an open seat.  The universe working in strange ways.
