Juan and I met at university in 2000 and remained in touch ever since,
Although we went to differently named schools, in different towns, our experiences during high school and university are relatable and remarkably similar. He collected me this morning and we started our day in Eden on the Bay (Big Bay) for drinks and snacks. Instantly it just felt like sitting down with a friend, having a conversation and catching up with an old brother. (that I never had)
Wow, time really goes by quickly in life, years going by in the blink of an eye and today is no exception. Before we knew it, we were in Sea point for a walk (with an ice-cream in hand of course).
I just realised again that we all have it extremely tough at times, with no exceptions. It was great that the conversation just kept on flowing from on topic to the next… passing the “microphone” from one to the other, taking turns to release a little and share the load.
After running a small errant for Juan in the city center he took me for a drive through the city of Cape Town. Wow, I was a little shocked to see how things “changed” and to me it feels like the soul in town is gone. My barber has also closed down his shop and decided to retire, leaving me with the job to find someone new while I am in South Africa… Ugh. We ended our day grabbing a late lunch in Blouberg, sitting down for a burger and a drink. Good times.
