Hinewai Reserve,
Emily enticed me to go on a day walk with her in Akaroa today. Was interesting packing my backpack for a single day walk, so light and comfortable… nice. Drove to Akaroa after weekday morning traffic and such a fine day.
Took the ute to get up the hill to the start of the trail, just inside the Hinewai reserve. This reserve has an interesting history, their webpage is [here] if you like to go have a read. There is also a well produced video on YouTube [here]. We need a little more “fools and dreamers” in the world.
We took on the trail, down about 650m in elevation to Stony Bay. It was easy to navigate, fairly dry and relative easy conditions to walk, comparing it to the TA. The birdlife was incredible to experience, so so many Fantails around.
We had a late lunch listening to the gentle waves breaking on the stones. Lots of seals in the water too. Coming back was a little harder, uphill back to the car just while the sun was setting. Wow, so exciting to get out “there” in nature again… so beautiful and such a great way to spend the day… why is it so hard to do. Just go, go now, do it now. (Sorry for my slightly screw horizon photo’s)
