Emergency Contact

Choosing emergency contacts,

I once had an almost heated discussion with a group of friends about how to choose an emergency contact.  To me it is one of the most difficult questions any form can ask me to complete, and I tend to leave it blank.

Emergency = A sudden unforeseen crisis (usually involving danger) that requires immediate action.

This might not surprise many of you, but I don’t have a lot of friends and I like to try and keep the ones I do consider friends, especially the ones living in my time zone.  For this reason, I most certainly don’t want to call on any of them to sort out my “sudden unforeseen crisis” if/when things have obviously gone pear-shaped.  Ugh, what should I do? Option A: I don’t feel that good friends should ever be emergency contacts because they deserve better than dealing with my crisis.  Option B: Not-so-good friends might not care enough if they are chosen and do nothing when I am really in need of help.

In the end I had to settle on choosing two good (if not the best) friends that I have.  I can only cross fingers and hope that I never need them and if I do… hope that they will remain my friends afterwards.

Crossing fingers…

  1. I’m sure they will. If they are who I think they are. (I believe I was part of that almost-heated-conversation?)
