Exploring more of Denver and surrounds.

One final day in the US before I fly out tomorrow,

Trying to make the most of it, getting out to downtown early to meetup with a small tour group to go see some of the sights.  First stop, Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre which is a little way out of town, away from the flatland and into the mountains.  I could feel how my heart skipped a couple of beats when we arrived.  The place is really spectacular and just about anyone that is anyone has performed here, even The Beatles in 1964.  Norah Jones performed here last Tuesday and I contemplated buying a ticket and going, but didn’t want to upset my meditation retreat vibe.
The smog is not so heavy today and you can see the Denver skyline in the photo below.
After the amphitheatre, we went on the hunt for a herd of Bison, that we unfortunately did not find.  On to Lookout Mountain and check out all of that sky!  Wow.  I was sad and a little envious to see a couple of paragliders in the sky above, the view must be amazing from up there, but it would have consumed the whole day if I tried to paraglide.
Next stop, just around the corner, the grave of the famous Buffalo Bill and his wife.  He actually requested in his will to be buried here.  I have to be honest… a great view of Colorado.
From here we turned back towards the city of Denver, but not before paying a quick visit to the town of “Golden”.  In some strange coincidence, they were celebrating Buffalo Bill Day and the whole main street was shut down for a parade.
It is an awesome little town with great shops filled with things from local artists.  The van dropped us back in lower downtown Denver just after lunch and this brings me to my next point.  For the life of me, and the Haaikie… what the hell is this?  In which la-la-land is this a scone?  Seriously?

During the afternoon I strolled around, visited a local Denver art show, mind-bending, exhibition, thingy.  It is called “Meow Wolf” and is just as crazy as it sounds.  You can checkout more of it here: Meow Wolf.  I wasn’t sure if we are allowed to take pictures, but I snapped this one… check out how many creature you can see.  Denver done, well, almost… just one quick stop a the gift shop of the Botanic Gardens on a special mission.
On my way out of the city, I tried to get a ticket to go watch a baseball game tonight at Coors Field, but it is Saturday and they were completely sold out unfortunately.  I got back to the hotel, collected my laundry and started packing my bags again… ready to fly out tomorrow to France.  Saying goodbye to the Gaylords Rockies Hotel and Convention Centre.

  1. The picture is a bit like many aspects of life, once you change your focus lots of animals start to pop out, whereas initially it was just a bit of interesting art.
Strange to see skis in the foreground of the photo with the fire truck, when yesterday you mentioned a temperature of 34 degrees. I guess there’s still snow in them thar hills.

    • Yes, and I only took a picture of one small section of the room. All four walls were covered in that “artwork”. About the skis in the picture, they are relaxing lounge chairs, build using old skis. There was a little snow on some of the tops of the mountains, but nothing that was ski-able while I was there.

  2. What a special last day!
