Getting to Queenstown,
The first part of this post, is technically part of yesterday, February 26. After reaching the car park after my walk, I manage to get a ride to the main road with the bus. Hitched a ride from there to Glenorchy with some Taiwanese tourists, making a quick round in the town, visiting a couple shops and snapping a picture of the top end of Lake Wakatipo from the dock.
From Glenorchy, paid for a bus ticket to Queenstown and after scurrying around, found a tenting site for the next 2 days in Arthur’s Point, just above the Shotover River, 15min out of Queenstown.
It was time to celebrate at the local brewery with a beer (ginger) in the one hand and pizza in the other. The Haaikie was begging for some real food and the Hamster wanted to celebrate finishing Southland TA.
This morning, it was off to Queenstown. Not my favourite place in NZ because of the tourists, but surprisingly not too busy today. I had a short piece, roughly 12km to walk from Queenstown to the airport along the beautiful lake side.
Filled up the backpack with some vitamin C’s and off I went on a gentle stroll, and afternoon nap under the Willow’s.
Now I am ready to kickoff the Otaga leg of the TA directly from the airport when I return.
