Hanmer (Hot) Springs and a trip on the river.

Making use of the Monday to beat the weekend crowds,

We drove north this morning, towards Lewis Pass to meetup with my guests and their friends in Hanmer Springs for a day trip at the pools.  We made a quick stop to pick up our passes and were in the soothing hot water just after 10:30am.  I also got some members of our “party” (crowd) to join me riding the water slides.  Life is too short to not ride the slides and feel like a kid again.  Great fun, on what was a exceptionally quiet day.

After the pools, we stopped at the river for Jetboat ride.  (<-Is this a New Zealand thing only?)  Yes, perhaps this sounds a little child-ish too, but I never had the right crowd with me to partake before, so I am making the most of it today.  We stood around a little while watching other people taking a leap of faith, bungee jumping off the bridge before it was our turn in the boat.  Wow, what a nice experience, racing down the rapids at incredible speeds, feeling a little bit invincible at times.  Lots of feelings surfaced while on the boat, darting down the Waiau River…  Missing someone special, to share the adventure with.  Feeling extremely grateful being here, doing this and very privileged.  Hmmm, keep it together Phil, the action camera is pointing your way.  Somehow I feel very alive and completely at peace with who I am and how I am… not scared at all, living in the present moment.

Heading back home, we stopped in Ashley to join the friends for a braai.  “Hoe dan anders as ‘n stukkie vleisie and boerewors oor die kole.”  Our holiday together is drawing to a close, but I think we all had a great time.

  1. Sjoe dit is mooi daar – dreamy! WOW
    – reminded me of a similar place where I was not so long ago ‘-)

Water slides, riverboat, etc – it is our kindred spirits that keeps us young and feeling alive ..

Suddenly my mouth is watering for a stukkie vleis and boerewors – have not had that for quite sometime, even being living in SA where it is a big thing ..

Makes me happy to read how you are “feeling” at the moment “-)
