Lake Pukaki, and beyond – Day 33.

A short day, to the start of Lake Pukaki,

That was the plan anyway, it started with wide open spaces. Today and the upcoming days will be filled with wide open spaces, crossing Mackenzie country from Lake Ohau, to Twizel to Lake Pukaki and ultimately Lake Tekapo.

After all this, a small bit of pine forest, with the fog lifting and revealing a beautiful blue sky day.
Soon I hit the lake, and although I have been here many times before, the beauty and tranquility still strikes me. All in the proverbial shadow of Mt Cook in the distance.
I reached the camp site I planned to use for the night, but I wasn’t allowed to tent there, so my day got a little longer unfortunately, pushing on to the next campsite on the TA. Awesome views walking around the bottom side of the lake.

In the end, started to climb the hill away from the lake. I took on last picture of the lake at the end of a beautiful day and sent it to my friend Clint. His reply was “Does it get any better than this”. I am so privileged.

  1. Super jealous!!! Still so breathtakingly beautiful…
That last pic… all I can say is WOWWW!!!! Views for miles hey. Can imagine you will be waking up to an amazing sunrise in the morning.

    • Yes K, it was a pretty good view. The sunset was amazing and seeing the stars somewhere during the night when I got up was spectacular. The sunrise however was clouded in mystery by the fog unfortunately.
