Making the most of a break in the bad weather.

Cape Point,

I have to be honest that I did not have much hope for today when I opened the curtains this morning.  It was looking grey, windy, wet and miserable outside.  We stayed indoors, Clint working on his things and fixing a problem with is flying instrument… while I was working on paperwork for the car.  I was hoping it would improve, but it was a long shot.

Late morning we left home in search of breakfast, going to Melkbosstrand for a, what turned out to be late brunch.  Clint and I had some real deep conversations sitting around the table, him with a coffee and myself holding on to a hot chocolate.  Very deep emotions surrounding our childhoods… how great mine was and how fortunate I am to be able to say it.  It was raining outside, but I will never forget how it could have been “Raining in my heart – Buddy Holly”  The weather looked like it was giving us a wee break and we settled for a short walk along the Melkbos beach, watching the waves and a couple of surfers playing… and living life to the fullest.

Soon after, we were back at the flat, looking at screens when I checked out some webcams and flew out of my room announcing… “We are going”.  Clint was a little perplexed and before he could make adequate excuses, we were in the car on the way to Cape Point.  There was a gap in the weather (rain and wind) and it turned out great to be at Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope.  Not busy at all and nice conditions with great views.
We climb up to the first lighthouse but is wasn’t enough for Clint.  We had to go further, down to the second lighthouse via a little path with a lot of elevation.  I struggled, being unfit and lazy, but made it all the way (and back with some rest stops).  The waves and cliffs were impressive to say the least.
We stopped for dinner in Simons Town on the way back home and celebrated making a pretty grey looking day… great.  Living in the present moment.
