Bad weather for flying, so I am going skiing,
All throughout yesterday I was stalking the weather apps and thinking that the weather looks really terrible for flying this week, so should I go skiing? Well I was up early this morning, checked the forecast and put money on my Hutt Pass before I left for the mountains. It was not going to be a super nice day on the slopes weather wise, but that should make it quiet, less people and no queues.
Once I got to the bottom of the mountain, I had to remind myself again how to put wheel chains on Dino, but it wasn’t too bad. It was surprisingly calm, not many people around and so I started the drive up the hill. It was snowing from around halfway up and the wind was pretty gnarly, blowing snow all over. Dino was struggling in the deep snow and at times it was all white around me. To no surprise, by the time I got to the top parking lot, the road was closed.
Good then, my plan worked. The “bottom” section of the mountain was open to ski all the easy (Green) and intermediate (Blue) slopes and the road was closed, not allowing more people to arrive. By 9:30 the snow stopped and the slopes were oh so pow wow powdery. It was awesome and I could find my “feet” quickly, remembering how to do this from last season. I skied right up to 4pm when the lift closed. Looking back at my lift pass, I did 58 trips up the lift today. Doing rough math’s on it, it equate to almost 10 runs an hour, 6 min for a lift up and the run down. So stoked, such a great day to get back into it.
