Trying to stay in touch with the world while sharing my adventure, posting some photographs and recording my thoughts.

On to the next section of my trip – Five (a, b, c, maybe d + e and most certainly F).

Up and out of bed early for what has been a looong and rough day,

I struggled to find something art-y and authentic in Belgium over the past two days to take home.  I don’t know why, but nothing that I saw really appealed to me to purchase and take back to New Zealand.  Last night, one of my hosts offered some prints of her work for me to choose from, wow, amazing how the universe works things out.  I got to choose something I really liked, to take back home and frame on the wall.  So grateful.  (Watch this space after I returned to NZ)

I also received my first birthday present… yes, it is the dreaded birthday today.  A box of Belgium waffles, yum.  My hosts were kind enough to drive me to the train station in Eindhoven (very early) this morning to have an easier connection to Schiphol airport.  Again, thank you A&M for your generosity and allowing me to stay in your home.  I had a great time in Belgium and mostly because of you.  The Haaikie could not wait and opened the first waffle on the train to the airport.

Reached the airport, made it onto my flight and the next 12 hours was hell.  It was just a terrible flight, for so many reasons that it was hard to keep count of.  I don’t want to list them because I most certainly don’t want to remember it.  Ugh.  KLM was kind enough to write me a little note to wish me well on my birthday, to confirm that they know it was my birthday, but not upgrade my seat even though I could see an empty chair in the next cabin.  I guess the universe was not on my side and perhaps wanted to teach me a lesson or something.  Bottom-line, I made it to Cape Town with all my baggage, feeling like the walking dead and my transport took me to an old friend’s place to get some rest for the night.  Sad, I could feel that I lost my post meditation retreat glow today… the flight was tough.  Will have to put in a little work to get my balance back.  Thanks to everyone remembering my birthday and wishing me well, much appreciated from all of you.
