Over the hill to Roses Hut – Day 21.

A cold night,

And a frosty start, and by that I mean a real frosty start. I remember waking up during the night and remembering that I couldn’t hear the dripping noise from the condensation from the inside of my tent. When I woke up this morning, I realised why, it was because my tent’s outer fly sheet was all frozen solid. Good thing I put some extra clothing on last night before getting into my sleeping bag. The picture is not an illusion, I am holding up my walking socks, frozen solid while they were outside, hoping they might dry. I had to put them in my pants pockets to defrost before I could put them on.
Nevertheless, it was all good, apart from a late start, to wait for the sun to warm things up. I had a short “kilometer” day ahead, with only one BIG climb and descent, so the going was slow.
The views on the other hand were spectacular to say the least… leaving Queenstown behind and say hello to Wanaka.
Got to Roses Hut early, managed to dry and repack my tent and things, as well as do the laundry and “eat” my backpack a little lighter. What a nice view to sit down to and slice a piece of biltong.

    • Yep, feel like a king, sitting down at the end (or the middle) of the day and slicing a piece of biltong.
