Funny story,

Got up this morning at 5am, last little things to do, shower, dishes, grab my backpack and off to the airport for my 7:35 flight to Queenstown.  Got to the airport and one slight little problem… I cannot see my flight on the departure schedule board.  This is odd, something is wrong and then it hit me… I booked a flight for 7:35PM.  I don’t know how this happened, the Hamster must have checked out and left the Haaikie in charge to pull the levers upstairs when I booked the flight.  So to cut a looong story short, the Air NZ staff at the service counter were awesome. Most of the flights to Queenstown were fully booked, but they pulled some strings, guided me through booking changes and soon I was on standby for the “real” 8:40am flight to Queenstown. Karma was on my side, and when the announced “final call”, I went to the counter and minutes later I had a seat number and was sitting in it… flying to Queenstown.  A massive thanks to Air NZ and its staff for getting me, and my luggage surprisingly to Queenstown this morning, and not spoiling my day.

Back on the trail, and it feels like I was gone for months, but I am so glad to be back. Most of today is on hard gravel or tar surfaces, a golf course, cycle trail, urban developments, sports fields and camping grounds around the lake, but the scenery was still great.

All and all, it was a good day. I am glad I walked the first 14km of this leg before I flew back to Christchurch, because the 21km I did today was long. My feet are hurting from all the hard surfaces, but at least I managed to stay dry. Tenting tonight in ArrowTown and tomorrow it is into the hills.
