Returning to my suspicious project.

Because I have a little spare time away from the car,

Dad and I cracked on today with my other “suspicious” project that the Hamster brought to light in recent months.  Yes, I mentioned something briefly about it back on 21 September 2024 when I wrote Not just the car, there is another item now too. I will at least post some pictures today to give some of you an idea of what (else) I am working on.  Dad and I made a trip to his old work place this morning to collect the item.  Ain’t everyone glad that it is not the drilling machine that is standing there… LOL.

It is an old fuel pump, that found it’s way to my dad in a (shall we call it) suspicious manner as well.  It needed to be cranked by hand to fill up one of the gallon glass containers, while the other container was emptying into your car’s fuel tank.  It takes the action “pumping gas” literally.  I saw it while working on the car and decided that I have a special vision in mind for the thing, if I can get it shipped home, to my home.  We collected all the pieces this morning to get it home and start disassembling it, for cleaning before shipping.
We needed some LARGE tools to remove some of the fitting and a lot of effort, to get the rest of the thing apart before starting the tedious job of cleaning it.  Cast iron, brass, aluminium, glass sections, pipes, channels and floats… removing paint, removing rust and learning a thing or two about the workings as we went along.

It was a tough day in the sun outside, but after feeling very deflated this morning, I am glad about our effort and “the thing” is starting to look like something… clean.  On a side note, the rest of the car parts are all bagged, boxed and ready to go with my personal items also included.  Just the wash table needs a clean and tidy before everything is set.

  1. Mmm – now I’m very curious and looking forward to read about your special vision in mind for the thing ‘-)

When will everything arrive in NZ – well give or take ?

    • I found a picture of the original looking “thing” and will post it in a future blog post perhaps. It will all work out, arriving or not arriving in NZ.

  2. I’m ‘gobsmacked’ with the sheer number of things you have taken on, and still go looking for more!
Good on you for saving and restoring a little bit more history (no not me) with the fuel pump.
At least you should be able to rest physically if not mentally during the current phase of your time in SA.
    Kia kaha buddy

    • LOL, unlike you I do not have a large garden and fruit trees to keep me occupied… so until I have a job again, I have something to keep me busy.
