Tough day,
Comparing all the Southland, Te Araroa days to one another, on paper, today always looked like the toughest. The weather did not make it any easier to be honest, so a tough day it was. Left Invercargill at 6:30 ish, then onto the beach all the way to Riverton, in total almost a 40km day.
The wind was blowing up to 50km/h onshore, bringing in waves of rain showers every hour or so. I lost count how many times I got rained on, then drying all out in the sun, just to get rained on again. Snapped this photo in one of the sunny spells, you can just make out the hill behind Riverton in the distance.
I am so glad NZ doesn’t have snakes… This is me ducking in behing the first dune, in half meter long grass, to escape the wind and rain for 15min.
I got to my accommodation at 6pm, managed to change it to a cabin… would not have liked tenting tonight. Will have to take it easy tomorrow.

Ahhhh!! Is this Oreti Beach? Stunningly flat, with open views of the ocean. That day had really bad weather that day, I barely made Te Anau and Milford by car haha.
Yes, it was a rough day.
Just another day in paradise 🙂glad you are well.
Today felt more like paradise, but you have to take the good with the bad.
Sjoe!
A slightly crazy day..
Not as crazy as the old Leopard.
