The bar.

Meeting interesting people from all WALKS of life,

For me, this was always a hard one to do, walking into- and sitting down in the bar, having a chat to what seem like strangers at first.  Not sure why, but this has never been my thing and not at all conducive to work well with my personality type.
Having said all of this, I must be honest and say that I actually, for the first time in my life perhaps, enjoyed the bar here at Lake Ohau Lodge. I had great conversations with interesting people that caught me a little by surprise to be honest, and in many of them probably sharing a little too much about myself. So to all the people listening to my story over the last couple of days here at the lodge, and the staff behind the counter, a great, big, THANK YOU

It is my last night at the lodge tonight, going back on the trail tomorrow, and I would like to extend my thank you to all the staff here at Lake Ohau Lodge. Most of you probably feel like I became part of the furniture and overstayed my welcome, but it was nice calling this place “home” for a couple of days.

  1. Dear Phil, we love it when people feel at home here and become “part of the furniture”. It is the true privilege of being in hospitality – having those special conversations and I really loved meeting you and your story will stay with me.
All the best for the rest of the TA journey and hope to see you over the winter.

  2. It is quite liberating doing something out of one’s comfort Zone..

Going anywhere alone, except for beach walks ie a safe space, was something I have never done.
One Saturday afternoon, I really did not feel like sitting at home alone and the friends were either away or otherwise occupied..

For the first time in my life, I decided to go to a pub alone..
But not before I phoned the pub(which, being there before.. felt quite safe) and asked if it will be a safe space for me Gurl alone..
The manager promised to take care of me.. So off I went..
The manager watched me like a hawk and the rest of the staff really looked after me.. And above all, I had loads of fun..
Since then.. I’ve been doing a lot more stuff on my own (when no friends available)
Life is just even a tad bit more enjoyable now “-)

    • Good on you Urvi… like the message in one of the huts I stayed in read, “when was the last time you did something for the first time”.
