Making like a tourist and taking the looong way to Wellington,

Up and out of bed before the break of dawn this morning. Got the last of my things together, had breakfast, put out the garbage and locked the door to my home. It is the first day of my trip, although there won’t be a lot of walking today.
Took a taxi to the train station to check-in for the first leg of my journey today. I took the Coastal Pacific, scenic train to Picton… acting like a tourist, leaving Christchurch at 7am.
I might have caught a couple if zzzzz’s early on in the journey, but soon felt better as the scenery improved. There is just something about train journeys that excites me… on top of the fact that they are so comfortable and luxurious. I managed to snap a couple of photographs on the way to Picton.

Arrived in Picton, with coincidental light rain. It was a beautiful trip, but my bum was glad that we were standing and walking again. Even if only a little bit, walking onto the Interislander Ferry, for my first crossing of the Cook Strait.  I never suffered from motion sickness… so it is time to check if that is still the case.
Great views, sailing through the calm waters of the Marlborough Sounds. Out at sea it was a different story, but not too rough so that the Haaikie started throwing his toys out.
The Te Araroa officially included the Cook Strait ferry in the trail, so technically I have been on the trail today.  No real walking however…  We will see how tomorrow goes when I start in Wellington.

  1. Maybe the Haaikie knows there’s slim pickings ahead on the trail, so hang on to everything!

  2. And so it begins..

Nice way to start your trail with all that gorgeous scenery..
    Baie stunning pics!

The one Seaview pic does look a bit rough..
Glad the Haaikie handled it “-)

My last sea visit was on one of our Survey Vessels at my previous company..
Really did not handle that one very well..
Sea was rough with a lot of diesel fumes and the Vessel itself.. Definitely not for the faint hearted..LOL

    I was horizontal today..
My health not too happy since Tuesday..
A combination of a couple of things.. me thinks..
Have not been in this situation since 2018..
Felt very sorry for myself.. LOL..
Meds and sleep (which is almost always the best meds) was the order of the day..
    Starting to feel better “-)

    • After all the aerial surveying I have done, I am pretty confident that I do not suffer from motion sickness, but you never know.
Hope you get over you illness soon and feel better.
