While the weather is behaving and the peaks still have a little snow,
We started the day not too early. Technically my guests still have a little jetlag, even if it is only 2 hours. We hit the road, making a stop in Sheffield at the pie shop for uhm, some “supplies”. I warned my guests to put their hands in their pockets, because the saying “like a kid in a candy shop” sprung to mind. Nevertheless, choices (and sacrifices) were made, and soon we were back on the road…
We pulled over at Mt Cheeseman after a couple of minutes on the ski field road and lowered the tailgate of the ute for a sit down in the sun. This is still a very special place to me, feeling very close to an old friend and it was such a nice day, to share the scenery with my other special friends from Aussie. Looking up, we saw some paragliders making the most of the nice conditions in the mountains. Soon the pies disappeared and we pushed on, over the Waimakariri river and on through Arthur’s Pass all the way to Morrisons Footbridge on (technically) the west coast of the South Island. Great day, beautiful scenery and awesome people to catchup with.
We picked up three very fit hitch hiker girls at the footbridge and made our way back to Arthur’s Pass for a little exercise. We walked the Devil’s Punchbowl trail to the waterfall and back, collecting a Geocache or two along the way. Stopped in town afterwards for a drink, which we shared in the company of some of the NZ mountain locals. Such a nice day.

Thanks for the link and info..
Very interesting read..
And now putting two and two together you have actually mentioned these birdies on your first trail..
Listening to their sound that they make..
They most definitely fall into my tweetie birds category.. LOL
Haha… not so sure if I agree.
Wow .. that scenery – Just WOW!
Glad to see you are having a good time “-)
Another WOW – that Tweetie BIRD!
What is this NZ mountain local called?
(my tweetie birds began singing at 03h00 this morning – eish ‘-) )
Good times yes… Uhm the mountain, I think you are referring to the Craigieburn’s.
Uhm – you stated – company of some of the NZ mountain locals –
I assumed you meant the tweetie BIRD – wanted to know what he/she is called? ‘-)
LOL… nie “Tweetie bird” nie. Haha. Yep, I was referring to the (somewhat cheeky) “Kea” at the lookout point and in Arthur’s Pass at the local shop. They are endangered as well as endemic to the forested and alpine regions of the South Island of New Zealand. Very intelligent and you can see more about them here: https://www.doc.govt.nz/nature/native-animals/birds/birds-a-z/kea/
