Winter is setting in, but the snow has not yet (fully) arrived.

Skiing season at Mt Hutt opened this weekend,

BUT, yes a very big but, the weather has not played its part during the last two weeks.  Mt Hutt was set to open last Friday, but remained closed to open yesterday, but only the lower part of the mountain.  Today they are closed again due to high north-westerly winds and possible rain.  With the nice paragliding days decreasing, I was hoping to get a little skiing done before I have to leave on my international trip.  At the moment that looks unlikely, unless I am willing to pay a little money and not be scared to write-off a pair of skis.

Still, the forever optimist in me is hoping that the weather this week will bring some snow followed by nice skiing conditions.  The other ski fields like Porters, Cheeseman and Ohau snow fields only open later in June, so time will be limited for me to find some good skiing days.  I linked all the ski fields in the text above/below, if you would like to click and stare at the webcam images in anticipation.  The photo is from the Mt Hutt webcam.
